The current educational climate has made hiring and training professionals in education very complicated. Many genuinely motivated people are often unprepared to be effective. They are often confused about their role with special needs students and sometimes unclear about who, exactly, they are working with. They are not lacking in motivation - they are lacking training!
Para Focus Resources provides comprehensive training for elementary level professionals working with special needs students in self-contained special education classrooms, pullout resource rooms, in-class resource programs and special area classrooms. Participants come away with a better understanding of their students' needs as well as strategies and techniques to help boost effectiveness.
Participants will learn how and why students are placed in special education settings, including at least one simulation of a learning disability. They will learn what an IEP is and how it effects student programming throughout the school day.
Participants will be taught strategies to help students learn a variety of subjects in a variety of settings. Examples include breaking down of steps, modifiying work, color-coding, modeling, and positive reinforcement.
Intended for those unfamiliar with special needs populations, this section will focus on appropriate and inappropriate ways to interact with students. This includes professional terminology as well as confidentiality guidelines.
Participants will be introduced to effective strategies designed to prevent as well as de-escalate challenging behaviors. They will also learn what incentive programs are and how to best implement and support teachers' programs in the classroom and throughout the day.
